I don't think the nuclear war will be very nice, so I'm trying to prevent it. I am looking for young vital people to dedicate themselves for the next few years to inducing the changes in the human outlook and in mankind essential for the survival of life on this planet. Today people are said to be concerned about nuclear weapons and the disastrous effects of possible nuclear holocaust. Yet these weapons are no more than the tool which has emerged to complete a deathly generation that has gripped humanity ever tighter over recent centuries, that is reducing increasing numbers of lives to the existence of physical shells. Outlooks together forming the present situation are wiping out human people in a race to suicide which has given us today's world upsidedown, and the excellent means to finish the job, annihilate our material remains, that are nuclear weapons. In this world, money matters not people; power-sick leaders condition us to subjection in complacent subservience; there is a thing called "education", by means of which all the possibility of life is removed from those physically growing, given bits of paper to mark them as succesfully ruined and mutilated for joining in the deathly race; people exist conditioned into dependence upon others for their physical survival; we run from fear, we do not face it; we are controlled by the suicidal urge to leadership or to subservience, to dictate over corpses or to surrender our lives to objects beyond -- governments, individuals, religions, intellects, possessions, myths and legends; there is a thing called "personal property" causing us to plunder the planet, preventing harmony with it; lunatics have our lives in their hands and we accept this in continuing our daily existence; we believe in many things --- we do not believe in ourselves; we do not fear death --- it is life we fear. These are aspects of this world upsidedown. Survival means turning it the right way up. It means stopping for a moment our desperate frantic scrambling activity, stopping in the silence, the calm peace of this dying world, and thinking. "What is all this for? What is it about? What does life mean to me? What really matters to me in all this, my experience?". No longer can we continue to exist running from questions. No longer can we continue to exist running from fear. We must turn about to face the realisation that survival means CHANGING OURSELVES. To use Einstein's phrase, it is time to change 'the way we think'. No less than this is what disarmament means. Yet I believe that within these physical shells of onetime humanity are yet present the human people with the belief in themselves as universes of possibility, and in their experience as a fantastic eternal adventure of self discovery, who can turn us back in time from physical suicide and reverse the spiritual, the nonmaterial, degeneration of mankind, destroy these deathly outlooks that have us gripped by the throat. This humanity lies dormant, waiting to be released into the light, waiting to show us the freedom that lies in facing our fear of living, the freedom of life. For some these people live nearer the surface, buried not so deep; we can fight to achieve their escape, and use our freedom to release others from their imprisonment, then more and more, thge revolution for survival, stimulated and empowered by life, by life the amazing adventure to discover our selves, life the infinate possibility, lived not for pleasure but for experience, for itself. Whether this moment or in the future, you cannot fail but become a part of this. No longer will we live for death. Now we live for life. -- S.M.
